The African & Caribbean Students Association, with support from Student Government, is hosting our first ever Panel on Social Entrepreneurship.

Our panelists are:

SARAN KABA JONES
Founder & Executive Director, FACE Africa (www.faceafrica.org)

FACE Africa Massachusetts based nonprofit that funds and supports sustainable clean water, sanitation and hygiene projects in Liberia, while also empowering young girls and women through skills
training.
Since launching FACE Africa in January 2009, the organization has raised almost $300,000 for clean water projects in Liberia and is gearing up to launch a social enterprise that will provide economic opportunities for women in Liberia.

SHASHIN CHOKSHI
Founder AAJ KI KISHORI & Co-Founder, MONEYTHINK

I was first inspired develop a micro-enterprise development program from unforgettable experiences at the grassroots level. My motivation came from conversations with women of all ages: young women participants in financial literacy workshops, elderly women leaders in a micro-pension campaign, urban women workers who rolled bidis and ironed clothes, and rural women workers who cultivated bajra or milked cows.

Microfinance provides financial assistance in the form of loans, but for young entrepreneurs who want to start their own innovative businesses, the impact of microfinance is limited. What these young women needed was a set of proactive, youth-focused services, including job training, business skills development, and seed capital.

KUNMI SOBOWALE
Founder, Day in the Life Project

The origin of Day in the Life Project (DITLP) started with the discovery of an alarming trend about America’s workforce: minorities and women are grossly under-represented in professional careers.
Our goal is to aggregate concise professional experiences to serve as an online career guide of sorts for high school students. But instead of the typical cut-and-dry career guides of the past, it will emphasize personal narratives, as well as direct students to relevant resources online and in their own communities where they can gain even more exposure to a particular career path.
